After a
successful four-year period spent working under world-renowned fashion
photographer Mario Testino, 27-year old Ivan Shaw has returned to his hometown
of Perth to exhibit, ‘The Most Westerly Point’.
Prior to
Ivans recent return to Perth, the self-taught and incredibly humble
photographer spent four years living in London. During his time abroad he
worked on projects including Vogue covers, shoots with Kate Moss, the royal
engagement portraits and countless celebrity assignments.
For his
first solo exhibition Ivan chose to step away from fashion and explore the
patterns and beauty of the pristine Shark Bay World Heritage Area. With 21 limited
edition aerial images Ivan has captured a perspective of the region that few
have seen.
This
landmark exhibition was captured on medium format Velvia 100 ISO slide film
giving the large-scale (150 X 120cm) archival giclée prints stunning colour saturation.
Ivan has elected to use film instead of the safer digital alternative giving
the images the highest level of authenticity possible.
Ivan’s time in the sky had to be executed to perfection and after two years in
the planning process, the abstract images unquestionably succeed in reflecting
the raw beauty of the region. Taken from 4000 feet, Ivan achieved the
birds-eye-view vantage point by leaning out of a door-less Cessna plane that
was hired for the project.
The
much-anticipated exhibition will be launched in Perth in December before it
travels interstate and overseas in 2013.
The
exhibition will be open to the public daily from December 7th 2012 from 10am – 5pm until the 16th of
December.

Dine for Life returns in 2012 with its biggest event to date, engaging the hearts and minds of West Australians to support a global cause too great to ignore – human trafficking and exploitation of women and children.
On the evening of 28 November 2012, Dine for Life will once again bring together the finest of Perth’s food and wine industry to host a spectacular simultaneous dining event spanning 20 restaurants.
The fundraising goal has also grown, with Dine for Life aiming to raise over $40,000 for SISHA – a registered Australian not-for-profit organisation in Cambodia who work to ensure justice for victims of human rights abuses such as human trafficking, bonded labour and sex abuse.
Described as raw and confronting, the issues that SISHA deal with in South East Asia have far reaches as close as our own backyard. As Dine for Life Founder Andjelka Matic says: “The cause SISHA is fighting for is not something that should exist in the modern world but it does and it affects us all. By raising awareness and supporting SISHA who are addressing the problem at its source, we can all help bring about changes that need to be made.”
Restaurants such as Rockpool Bar & Grill, Nobu, Fuku, Modo Mio, Bistro Guillaume, Beluga, Jackson's Restaurant, Restaurant Amusé, Maurizio Restaurant, Divido, Mosman’s, 1907 Restaurant, Sentinel Bar & Grill and Lamont’s have embraced Dine for Life’s ‘act local – think global’ approach with their chefs set to showcase their culinary talents on the evening. In an initiative organised by Faber Vineyard, enhancing the dining experience are the wine makers of the Swan Valley region who are coming together to pair some of our state’s most loved wines with each meal. As always, diners will be teased with the mystery of the secret after party location, which is revealed on the night. An amazing event in itself, the Dine for Life after party brings diners, sponsors and volunteers together to collectively celebrate the charity and the community that supports each event.
“This year we’ll also be celebrating Dine for Life’s role in organising SISHA’s first Australian and biggest ever fundraising and awareness campaign,” Dine for Life Founder Natasha Di Ciano said.
One hundred per cent of funds raised at this event will be donated to SISHA’s most funding strapped department – Raids and Rescues; an area that is in need of urgent support according to Founder and Executive Director Steve Morrish. “The most heartbreaking part of our job is having to turn victims away due to a lack of funding,” he said. To make a difference and to be a part of this extraordinary event, tickets can be purchased from 7 October 2012 for a minimum donation of $200 at www.dineforlife.com.

Perth Arena Operator, AEG Ogden today announced the lineup for venue’s free community music event, “Plug Into Perth”.
The Interim General Manager, Steve Hevern said “Plug Into Perth” was a unique opportunity for local music artists to sound-check Western Australia’s new home of entertainment. He said the test event would feature acts only from WA and be headlined by current hip-hop sensation Drapht, whose 2011 album Life of Riley debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Charts. Drapht will be supported by local favourites Sugar Army and Split Seconds, both of which are on Triple J high rotation and between them have won numerous WA Music Industry Association (WAM) Awards.
Mr Hevern said before these bands graced the stage, the actual first ever band to plug into Perth Arena would be a competition winner. “The search is on to give the lounge room, garage and bedroom bands of Perth the chance to make WA history. All bands need to do is upload a YouTube link of their performance with the winner to be announced on 26 October. They will then have the honour of being the first band to sound-check Perth Arena,” Mr Hevern said.
Tickets to the once in a lifetime “Plug Into Perth” will be available via ballot run through Perth Arena’s website. Those wanting to attend this event can register at www.pertharena.com.au for a chance to win two tickets. Tickets also include free Transperth transport to and from the event. Winners will be drawn by ballot on Wednesday October 24.. Mr Hevern said the second of the free community events would be “Access All Areas” on Sunday November 4.
“This event will give locals the chance to explore their new home of entertainment and see some areas that after this day will be closed to the general public. Backstage dressing rooms, ready for Sir Elton John on November 10 will be open for viewing and music fans will even have the chance to stand on-stage,” Mr Hevern said.
A full schedule of entertainment will be released closer to the event. Both community events are supported by the Western Australian Government through the
Department of Culture and the Arts and VenuesWest. Opening Perth Arena on November 10 is the legendary Sir Elton John with his band. Currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of Rocket Man, Sir Elton will perform ‘under the stars’ with the Arena’s roof open for the spectacular opening night. Backing up this inaugural event the following night are Matchbox Twenty (with INXS and Evermore), with Sir Elton and his band performing a second sold out show on November 12. The Perth Wildcats will play their first home game on November 16 followed by Nickelback on November 17, and then Mike Tyson’s “Day of Champions”, The Wiggles ‘Celebration Tour’, Russell Brand, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj rounding off an exceptional opening period line-up of entertainment leading into the Hyundai Hopman Cup.
2013 already has shows on sale from Weezer, Celtic Thunder, The Script, P!nk and One Direction, and the promise of many more to come.
About Perth Arena Sitting within the new Northbridge Link precinct, the Perth Arena will form an integral part of the Perth CBD revitalisation project as an iconic building for the people of Perth and Western Australia, attracting premium entertainment, sporting and cultural events. Currently under construction and opening on 10 November 2012, the 15,000 capacity, state-of-the-art arena has been designed to maximise flexibility, and features a permanent tennis court surface, retractable roof and 36 corporate suites. Open House Perth invites the public to celebrate our city and the role that quality architecture, landscape architecture and urban design plays in our lives.
The Open House initiative was founded in London in 1992 and now takes place in many of the worldʼs most exciting cities, including New York, Barcelona and Melbourne – and Perth is the latest city to join the international network of this worldclass event.
Over 50 buildings, design studios and city destinations will be participating in this inaugural event with highlights including the brand new Perth Arena, the State Theatre Centre of WA, Brookfield Place, Central Park and Parliament House. The 2012 Perth program includes an exciting range of projects, including contemporary commercial buildings, iconic and historic state buildings, intelligent residences and innovative infill projects. The program includes walking tours and a chance to learn about design and architecture from experts in the field. Open House Perth will also feature a number of additional free events and programmes including public art projects, exhibitions, family activities, speaker presentations and competitions will activate many of the city’s ‘inbetween’ spaces.
